ABOUT SJRIMAGES
The way you look determines the way you’re valued. Your content speaks before you ever do—and if it doesn’t position you correctly, you lose opportunities before they begin.
Who We Work With
SJRIMAGES is more than a photography and videography company — it's a commitment to honoring the people, cultures, and communities we serve. Every frame we capture is rooted in intention, crafted with light, and designed to preserve what matters most.
Founded by Shedrick Rhodes, SJRIMAGES brings a documentary-style lens to every project — from cinematic portraits and wedding storytelling to brand photography and video production across Metro Atlanta. What sets us apart isn't just the quality of our images. It's the depth of the stories behind them.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
It started with a gift. At just twelve years old, Shedrick received his first camera from his parents — and from that moment, he never put it down. What began as curiosity became passion, and what started as snapshots became a lifelong pursuit of visual storytelling.
By high school, Shedrick had joined the yearbook staff, where he fell in love with the entire creative process — from composing shots in the field to seeing the final project come together in print. The excitement of holding that finished yearbook, knowing his images were part of something lasting, planted a seed that would grow into a career built on capturing moments that matter.
THE DEFINING MOMENT
Determined to master his craft, Shedrick went back to school for formal photography education. It was there, in the darkroom, that everything changed. Watching that first image slowly emerge on paper under the amber light — that was the moment he knew. This wasn't just a hobby. This was his calling.
His professor saw something special too. One day, she took away his digital camera and handed him a 35mm film camera with a broken viewfinder. Her challenge was simple but profound:
"You have an eye for photography, but you have to learn how to be an artist. It's all about creating with light."
— Shedrick's photography professorThat lesson changed everything. Without a viewfinder to rely on, Shedrick was forced to master the fundamental relationship between aperture, shutter speed, f-stop, and ISO — understanding how each element controls the way light enters the camera and transforms into an image. He learned to read light instinctively, to anticipate how these settings shape exposure, depth, and mood before ever pressing the shutter. That technical mastery became the foundation of how SJRIMAGES approaches every photograph today: not just capturing light, but controlling it with precision and intention.
A CINEMATIC LENS ROOTED IN CULTURE
After school, Shedrick became a freelance photographer for the St. Petersburg Times and the Weekly Challenger in St. Petersburg, Florida. Working in the fast-paced world of photojournalism, he fell in love with the documentary-style approach — capturing real people in real moments with honesty and beauty.
It was during this time that he developed his signature mastery: creating in the shadows without washing out the highlights. This technique — balancing darkness and light with precision and artistry — became the visual language of SJRIMAGES.
Every image we create carries that cultural intention. We don't just take pictures. We honor stories. We preserve identity. We create visual legacy.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
At SJRIMAGES, our work is guided by a set of principles that shape every project we take on — from the first conversation to the final edit.
Your story is unique, and it deserves to be told with authenticity and care. We approach every session with the belief that the best images come from truly seeing the person in front of the lens.
Photography isn't about cameras — it's about creating with light. We bring a painter's sensibility to every shoot, sculpting with shadows and highlights to craft images that feel both timeless and alive.
From African heritage to community celebrations, we photograph culture with reverence. Our documentary roots ensure that the traditions, identities, and legacies we capture are treated with the respect they deserve.
While we love color, our heart lives in black and white. There's something about stripping away color that reveals the raw emotion, the true texture, the authentic soul of a moment. It's where art meets honesty.
WHAT WE CREATE
Over the years, SJRIMAGES has built a diverse portfolio that spans the full spectrum of visual storytelling — from high-energy sports photography and elegant wedding films to powerful brand campaigns and intimate portrait sessions.
But what makes the work meaningful isn't the category — it's the impact. There's nothing quite like visiting a family's home years later and seeing a portrait on the wall — knowing that you've helped immortalize someone they love. That's the work that matters. That's the legacy we're building.
THE VISION
SJRIMAGES is building toward something bigger. In the next five years, our vision is to become the leader in Metro Atlanta for high-quality video and photography services — serving companies, entrepreneurs, and creators who demand excellence.
We're working toward a full production studio — a creative home for the community. A space where podcasts are recorded, content is created, brands are built, and voices are amplified. Not just a studio, but a platform for the community to control its own narrative.
This isn't just about growing a business. It's about creating infrastructure for storytelling. It's about giving the community the tools and the space to share their truth — on their own terms.
WHY THIS WORK MATTERS
From that first camera at twelve to the darkroom revelation, from the streets of St. Petersburg to the studios of Metro Atlanta — every step of this journey has been about one thing: seeing people fully and honoring their story.
Photography and videography are just the medium. The real work is connection. The real art is trust. And the real legacy is what our clients take home — images that say "I was here. I mattered. My story is beautiful."
That's why SJRIMAGES exists. And that's why we'll keep creating — one frame at a time.
Ready to tell your story? Whether it's a portrait session, a wedding film, or a full brand campaign — we're here to make it unforgettable.
